Coalescence
48"x 60" x 1.5"
This was my first large art piece that I painted, and to be honest, painting large kind of scared me. Such a large canvas to cover with lots of paint. What I didn’t realize was that this painting was going to start my love of painting big.
This is a bunch of lilies that haven’t opened yet which lends to a more abstract feel. The drawing for this painting took MANY hours but I felt if the drawing wasn’t perfect, then the painting wouldn’t be either. When the drawing was complete, I started on my favorite part, painting. Fun fact, the background of this painting was originally a lime green. Hard to picture it now because the prussian blue color complements it so well.
I was accepted to have my first solo show at the Ankeny Art Center and I decided this painting would be my feature piece. Luckily it was finished in time and when it was time to name the painting, I felt the word Coalescence was the perfect title. Coalescence means: the process of coming or growing together to form one thing. This painting was the final piece that brought my first collection into one body of work and created my love of painting large.
