o Rags or paper towels o Latex gloves (optional) o 2 small glass jars with lids o Canvas: One 8x10 or 11x14 for first day of class. One 16x20 or larger for main painting oPalette for paints. You can tape wax paper to a plastic or other hard surface. o Palette Knife
( I prefer metal palette knives over plastic ones)
o Oil Paints – I suggest Gamblin, M. Graham or Winsor and Newton Oil Paints, NOT water soluble or student grade oil paints (like Artists Loft) Bring to class ANY oil paints you already have Start with basic colors in 37ml size:
Titanium White, Ivory Black, Cadmium Red (Medium is fine), Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Light (get Hue if you can't afford regular Cadmium).
Careful!! These are water mixable and not what you want to get. LOOK carefully because it is easy to pick these up by mistake. Water mixable is labeled in the black band.
o Brushes- I use Filberts and Brights (these describe the brush shape) Try to get one of each:
FILBERT or BRIGHT, Size 2, Size 4, Size 6, Size 8
** Bristles (the hair of the brush) come in natural or synthetic. Try to get a variety, different bristles give you different results and allow for different techniques.
**Oil painting brushes are typically long handled
o Master’s Brush Cleaner
o Painting Medium- Either Gamblin's Neo Meglip or Winsor Newton's Liquin
Gamblin's Neo Meglip 4 or 8.5 ounces
o Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits 4.2 ounces
Winsor Newton's Liquin 2.5 or 8.4 ounces
