In this hands-on mini camp, young artists will explore the art of bookmaking from start to finish. Campers will experiment with color and pattern, to create their own cover from paste papers before learning how to bind their own handmade books. This camp blends fine art, craft, and functional design, perfect for students who love creating with their hands and telling stories visually.

Projects

Paste Paper Covers
Students will create their own decorative paste papers using paint, pattern tools, and mark-making techniques. These one-of-a-kind papers will be used as covers for their handmade books.

Hand-Bound Book (Japanese Stab Binding)
Campers will learn the Japanese stab binding method to assemble and bind their books. They will choose thread colors and learn how binding becomes part of the book’s overall design.

Wooden Bookmark with Custom Tassel
Students will design and decorate a wooden bookmark and create their own tassel to accompany their book, adding a finishing touch they can use long after camp ends.

🖌 Creative Flexibility

Camp projects are designed with choice and flexibility in mind.
If your child prefers drawing or writing, they are welcome to focus on illustrating or filling pages inside their book. Students are encouraged to use the book as a space for personal expression in whatever way feels most exciting and comfortable for them.

ℹ️ Details for Parents

Students should bring a water bottle
