Enigmatic Delicacy

Painting size 24”x 48” x 1.5”

This painting began in early 2017, just before a trip to India. While there, I shared images of my work. Most admired the blooms, but one woman reacted with surprise, exclaiming, “We eat those!” To her, the zucchini blossom was not something to paint, but a delicacy to be eaten.

That moment stayed with me. In India, flowers are often used in spiritual offerings or as blessings—not given to express love as we commonly do. Her response revealed the cultural layers behind something as simple as a bloom.

I titled this Enigmatic Delicacy in honor of that exchange. “Enigmatic” reflects the mystery of differing perspectives; “delicacy” nods to the edible beauty at the heart of the piece.

Oil on canvas, painting continues around the edges. The signature is painted on the right side of the canvas and burned into the right side of the frame. Framed in a natural cherry floater frame. The piece is wired and ready to hang. Keep out of direct sunlight to preserve its vibrant hues.
