After spending time exploring the trails and ponds at Whiterock Conservancy, I was making my way back when this scene caught my attention. The light stretched across the landscape, and in the pond beside the path I noticed the winding trails left behind by muskrats as they swam through the water. It was one of those quiet details that made me stop and take another look.
This painting isn't about documenting that exact moment. It's about the feeling of following the changing light as it transformed the prairie on the way home. The unexpected colors capture the energy of the day, while the winding water and reflections remind me of the wildlife that shared the landscape. Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you think the day is winding down.
