Painting Size 30”x 40” x 1.5"
The red rose often brings to mind love first, but as I researched this piece, I felt drawn to a deeper layer of meaning. Beyond romance, the red rose has long stood as a symbol of courage, a strength rooted in history. During the Wars of the Roses, a series of fifteenth-century civil conflicts for the English throne, the red rose of Lancaster came to represent the bravery to stand up and fight for what you hold dear. Their rivals, the House of York, carried the white rose, and the clash between these two families shaped decades of English history.
The war finally came to an end when Henry Tudor married Elizabeth of York, uniting the red and the white and beginning the Tudor dynasty. That union, born from conflict and resolve, transformed the red rose into a symbol not only of love but of the courage required to protect it.
Oil on canvas, painting continues around the edges. The signature is painted on the right side of the canvas. The piece is wired and ready to hang. Keep out of direct sunlight to preserve its vibrant hues.
