Quiet Stewards

During my residency at Whiterock Conservancy, a small flock of sheep spent several days just outside the house where I was staying. They quickly became part of the rhythm of each day. Whether I was heading out to paint or returning from the trails, they were usually there, quietly grazing, occasionally looking up to acknowledge my presence before returning to their work.
These sheep weren't simply part of the landscape. They were helping restore it, clearing the undergrowth in preparation for a prescribed burn that would encourage the prairie to regenerate. Their calm presence became a reminder that meaningful change often happens quietly, through steady, patient work. Quiet Stewards is a tribute to the often-unseen work that helps wild places thrive.
Beyond Green is a series inspired by my artist residency at Whiterock Conservancy, where I explored the Iowa landscape through unexpected color.
