Despite its familiar name, the flower is not actually a tulip, but a member of the ginger family native to Southeast Asia. In Thailand, its lotus like bloom has long been known as Pathumma, while the name “Siam Tulip” connects the flower to Thailand’s historic name, Siam.
I was drawn to the way the soft pink bloom emerges from layers of sculptural green bracts, creating a beautiful transition from earthy greens and muted violets into luminous pink. The title Treasured in Time reflects both the flower’s connection to its place and history and the quiet beauty preserved within a single bloom.
