One morning during my residency at Whiterock Conservancy, I was out walking on a trail through the prairie when this view caught my attention. A narrow band of warm light stretched across the horizon, quietly announcing the start of a new day.
I loved the simplicity of the scene. Rather than painting every detail, I focused on that slice of light and the contrast between the cool, shadowed prairie and the warmth beginning to spread across the sky. Sometimes the smallest moments are the ones that stay with us the longest.
Beyond Green is a series inspired by my artist residency at Whiterock Conservancy, where I explored the Iowa landscape through unexpected color.
