One morning, I set out on a long walk by myself with no particular destination in mind. As I came around a bend, the landscape opened into this wide clearing. I remember stopping for a moment, taking it all in, and feeling like anything was possible. There was something about the openness of the prairie that quieted everything else and left space for new ideas to take shape.
When I painted this scene, I wanted to capture that feeling more than the exact view. The vibrant colors reflect the creative energy I found during my residency at Whiterock Conservancy. In many ways, this painting reminds me of the feeling that the prairie itself was encouraging me to dream a little bigger. Sometimes a place doesn't just inspire a painting, it changes the way you see what's possible.
